Departure

Posted on Thu May 23rd, 2019 @ 7:42pm by Lieutenant JG Addison MacKenzie & Captain Evelynn Haught

Mission: Side Posts
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: Post-Mission

Addison smoothed the front of her uniform as she moved across the bridge and reached the door to the Captain's Ready Room. She took a deep breath before pushing the door chime.

Evelyn's had just finished a communique with her Assistant back at Iota Station when she heard the chime at her door sound. Looking at the chronometer she wondered who it could be.

"Come in." she called out in a questioning voice as she knew that most everyone was enjoying their time off.

When the doors opened, Addison mustered a half-smile and walked in. "Do you have a minute, Captain?" she asked.

At the sight of Addison MacKenzie Evelynn's Chief Medical Officer he face brightened and a huge smile came over her face.

"Sure." she said. "I was just about to get myself a cup of tea. Would you like any?" she asked.

Addison held up her hand. "No, thank you ma'am."

She paused and hesitated before continuing. "Ma'am, I wanted to let you know that I'll be submitting my resignation. I'll be resigning my commission from Starfleet effective at the end of this mission."

Evelyn's walked over to the replicator and ordered her cup of tea. Once the materialization process had completed she picked up the cup and turned around just in time to hear Addison say that she was leaving.

Her face went from happy to sadness at the prospect of losing her Chief Medical Officer.

"Have a seat Doctor." said Evelynn pointing to the couch at the other side of the ready room where Addison was standing.

"Yes, ma'am."

Evelynn walked over and sat down beside the doctor. Not taking a sip of her tea she set it down on the side table and gave Addison her full attention. "Can I ask what came of this decision?"

Addison tried to muster her best reassuring smile. "This life... Starfleet, I mean... I don't think it's the best place for me to practice. Don't get me wrong, I love serving with you all, but this kind of environment is definitely not for me."

Evelynn reached over and placed her hand on top of Addison's. "I know this was a hard decision to make and I'm not going to talk you out of it. You have been through many trials while serving here."

"I just wanted to take this moment to let you know how interesting it was having someone like you onboard. It has been an honor having such a wonderful doctor like you this past year. Thank you for your kindness. I wish you the best of luck and continued success wherever you may find yourself." Said Evelynn somewhat emotionally.

Addison stood and offered her hand and a reassuring smile. "She's a hell of a ship with a hell of a crew. There's a lot to be proud of here."

"I'm proud of each and everyone here..." Evelynn said and then stood up and took Addison's hand. "including you. I hope you will stay in touch."

Addison nodded and turned to leave the Captain's Ready Room. "You can count on it."
